DISCOVERING THE PROBLEM

This was an important step to ensure that I was preforming relevant research and asking the right questions to participants. I contemplated which questions would lead me to the problem at hand.

Research Objectives

Learn user’s pain points in purchasing e-commerce, paying deposits, and completing consent forms.

Determine design patterns and navigation styles to easily help users find information and complete tasks.

Understand what users want and need while booking a tattoo appointment.

Understand what the client wants to convey in informational pages of the site.

I interviewed 5 participants, 3 of which have gotten tattoos in the past, and 2 who have not. Below are the most valuable insights gained from user research, followed by proposed solutions:

User Interviews

Users were frustrated by having to monitor emails to pay deposits and receive confirmations.

Solution- Create features that allow users to pay deposits directly from the website. Display confirmation on website and send 1 automatic email.

Users were frustrated by having to print out consent forms to sign them, and email them back.

Solution- Add feature that allows user to complete consent form on website and submit directly.

60% of users stated that they wanted to purchase e-commerce on website rather than navigate to Instagram.

Solution- Utilize Shopify integration to allow users to purchase e-commerce and subscriptions on website.

Most users stated that they wanted to be informed of risks and consents at the time of booking, rather than through email.

Solution- Add disclaimers and require consents before booking is confirmed.

DESIGNING USING DATA

Mid-Fidelity Wireframes

  • Homepage navigation is easily understandable. Allows users to quickly understand where to learn information, schedule appointments, and buy merchandise.

  • Users can are able to see available merchandise and complete payment and shipping information, without having to navigate to Instagram or other sites.

  • Scheduling page allows users to schedule appointment, pay deposit, learn risks of the procedure, and submit consents all in 1 place.

  • Portfolio page allows users to view his professional works, and click to increase the size and view a single piece of work.

TESTING MY DESIGN

A usability test was performed once the high-fidelity prototype was completed. This allowed me to identify any areas of opportunity or areas of user confusion. Below are the insights I gained:

Usability Testing

All tasks were efficiently and quickly completed. Average time spent schedule an appointment went from 82.7 seconds to 62.3 seconds.

Users rated the site at 88% on the system usability scale (SUS). Industry standard for a desired score is at least 68%.

Task completion rate was 96% for all tasks assigned. Some users took indirect paths, but all completed each task.

Users mentioned wanting a button to add a link to the portfolio In the navigation bar.

There was an error message when users tried to submit the consent form.
